Phishing is a type of cyber attack where attackers impersonate a trustworthy entity to deceive individuals into providing sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, or other personal details. These attacks are often carried out through email, instant messaging, phone calls or fraudulent websites that appear legitimate. Phishing can lead to identity theft, financial loss, and unauthorized access to guest data or SLC data.
To prevent phishing:
Be Skeptical of Unsolicited Communications: Always verify the source of emails or messages from unfamiliar senders, especially those requesting personal or financial information.
Check URLs Carefully: Before clicking on any links, hover over them to see the actual URL. Look for discrepancies or suspicious domain names.
Look for Secure Connections: Ensure websites use HTTPS, especially when entering sensitive information.
Verify Requests: Directly contact the organization supposedly sending the message, using official contact details, to confirm any requests for information.
Unverified Requests: If you receive an email from a unknown sender asking for personal or company data, immediately delete the email and/or report it to cyber@sissyslogcabin.com
By staying vigilant and adopting these preventative measures, SLC employees can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to phishing attacks.
